  The Goldcoast Sunwear brand was created and established in 1991. As an extension of the Peter Grimm brand, a brand established on the beaches of Southern California in 1989, Goldcoast filled the need for high functionality headwear with increased benefits and a primary focus on sun protection. The brand has evolved into a value priced, high quality line that appeals to anyone working, playing, or enjoying the outdoors.

  Many of the hats include special features and benefits we have developed and introduced over the years. We offer the highest classification of sun protection with our UPF50+ tested and certified styles, crushable and packable materials for easy travel, adjustable sizing features, water repellent fabrics, re-enforced seams to help prevent fraying, shapeable wire brims, floatable options, and the highest quality materials sourced from around the world. Extra attention is placed on craftsmanship and we continue to focus our efforts to provide the best value in sun protective headwear.

• The Peter Grimm Story (Jun 18, 2021)

  The company name Peter Grimm comes from my mother’s side. Grimm, her maiden name and
  my middle name. The rabbit logo is derived from my Grandmother who affectionately called me
  Peter Rabbit.

  Over the last 30 years I have met a lot of great people and made amazing friends around the world; Mexico City, Shanghai, Saigon and beyond. Many of our customers have shared their stories from rock stars, celebrities, cancer survivors, an 80 year old grocery bagger from Alabama and a potato farmer in Idaho. Who would have thought that people would love their hats so much and their Peter Grimm hat would become such a beloved part of their character, their True Character.

  We have been innovators and originators in the industry from the beginning. It all started with the creation of the Authentic California Lifeguard Hat but we have driven many other trends in the headwear industry that have become popular worldwide. Every hat we make is an original, designed by me, here in San Diego.
